con'd from part 1.

Y Kant Tori Read? now there is a question - posed by her first and often hidden away "metal" album which remained unanswered for some time. the obvious solution is that she is stupid, and i'll still stick to this up to a point. it becomes clearer though when you listen to cornflake girl, in which she reminisces about her childhood as some sort of half-girl half-cereal hybrid. unusual as this would be in many schools tori was lucky in as much as her school was obviously used to having half human half foodstuff kids knocking around the hall as she used to hang with the raisin girls. the raisin girls were obviously the offspirng of those thoroughly annoying californian raisins who sang terrible cover versions of terrible soul songs in the mid-eighties in some sort of racist commentary on how much otis redding looked like raisin. obviously after he had been dead for a couple of years....

back to the adventures of the girl bitten my a radioactive cornflake though. rather than using her powers of being part of a nutritious breakfast and being able to stay crispy in cold milk for good, she instead decided to learn to play piano. this would have been fine, cornflakes aren't very good at playing piano, until one day she came across a kate bush album. rather than doing the correct thing - breaking it into tiny pieces - she took the copy of lionheart down to the nearest plastic surgeon for and all over job. he managed to erase nearly all signs of cornflake, the rest she tucked under her big red hair. using this template she changed herself from a breakfast foodstuff to something you would have with a mid afternoon cup of coffee. kooky.

I think in the grand scheme of things, because Kate Bush is a Brit, she automatically has some sort of "intrinsic worth" that is certainly not matched by her song resume. While people like Sioxsie Sioux and Poly Styrene of X-Ray Spex were making some really great muusic, Kate was lost in Wuthering Heights and making album covers with cherries in her mouth. I still consider Little Earthquakes one of the most confessional records ever made... a sort of Anne Sexton grouping of poems when everything came together at the right time. The bad thing about Tori Amos is that all those little girls started jumping on her bandwagon and yelling WE LOVE YOU TORI at every damn concert... gratefully they went on to yell the same thing at non talents like Alanis Morrissete, but thats another story....

And when are you going to comment on that one hit wonder song "Breakfast at Tiffany's" of a few years ago? Or Madonna's initial band, the Breakfast Club?

i was going to say something about breakfast at tiffany's but when it comes down to it, i just love patricia neal's voice. any song that samples her voice is, automatically, really fucking cool. i know it's a weakness, but it's MY weakness, dammit.

and good call on the madonna thing.. i hadnt even thought of it. score one for you!

i worshipped siouxsie when i was a wee tot. but im not sure it had to do with the brit thing; what is it with americans who will buy _anything_ a brit is selling? s club 7? buh what? and i had a moment in college when i thought about thinking about kate bush and then i realized that it was just all the enya you couldnt escape lulling it's way down my dorm hall.

now then, tori is another matter. every now and then she'll do something that's not half bad, but then she follows it up with "me and a gun" or whatever that horrible song is called. maybe it's _because_ it's confessional that i think it's such a menace. me and oprah, we don't get along.
