steampunk

labrujah pointed to steampunk, a word i'd heard thrown around a lot, but didnt have any idea about.

it turns out to be a slightly more punkified version of the late-80s/v.v.early-90s edwardian downtown look that i used to love. one of the first outfits i had made for me was a lace top with a boxy jacket and a skirt with a bustle. right out of the pages of details, the magazine that was, a few years later, to become what you know it to be now.

this of course reminded me of rm's post on arriving for her details interview when she thought it was what it had been for years, only it was becoming what it is now. it also reminds me of a fabulous picture of scythrop in some gothic fabulous shirt with new romantic sleeves. i cant recall where i saw it.

im a little nostalgic for my 80s grandiosity. punk since then, with the exception of the whole mod thing, has been so blah blah blah. even goth seemed to get a little gap-y. what do you do when you are the sort of girl who used to have a closet full of insane-looking cocktail dresses?

you go to rome and buy your first valentino and galliano. that's what it's come to. i'll post later. both are ridiculous, in different ways.
